WBO for innovating potentials of bamboo globally

    World Bamboo Day was declared in 2009 by the Thai Royal Forest Department on September 18 in Bangkok, during the world Bamboo congress. The declaration is an effort to increase the awareness of bamboo globally. Bamboo which grows naturally has been a daily element, but its utilization has not always sustainable to exploitation. The World Bamboo organization aims to innovate the potentials of bamboo via international exposure and promotion- to protect natural resources and environment to ensure sustainable utilization to promote new cultivation of bamboo for new industries.
    This Year, the WBO promotes the celebration of the day around the world, with participation from Bamboo enthusiasts, practitioners, researchers, students and children.
    The three days celebration features the Northeast international Bamboo festival in addition to show cast in the achievements of National Bamboo Mission in the country.
    National Institute of Design (NID) is internationally acclaimed as one of the foremost multi disciplinary institution in the field of design education and research. The institute functions as an autonomous body under the department of industrial policy and promotion, Ministry of commerce and industries, Government of India.
    Interacting with media persons, Core Team Designer, Unnati Saraf said NID has been a pioneer in industrial design education after Bauhaus and Ulm in Germany and is known for its pursuit of design excellence. She disclosed, under the Cluster Development Initiative of Cane and Bamboo Technology Centre (CBTC) their core team designers hires more than twenty five artisans from different states, trained in Knock Down Furniture for residential spaces with designs and technical support from NID. Unnati Saraf also added that this furniture has been designed to cater to the upscale market in the emerging furniture market of India, replacing traditional products with bamboo furniture.
    It may be mentioned that the core team designers’ maiden exhibition in Nagaland has attracted many visitors and a good number of had placed orders for its varied products. Adding to this, the word of appreciation and encouragement rendered by the Nagaland State Chief Minister has added more spirit of the designers teams to participate in the exhibition in the days to come.
    Products like beds, side tables, dinning set, lamp, arm chairs, curtains made of wasted bamboo (rings), etc are some of the items of the Core Team Designers ranging from ` 600 to `. 15,000.
